Lakescape - 544
Lakescpe - 544 ...

Basai Wetlands ...
a magnificent low lying
area ... that held
water perennially ...
... spread over a
few square kilometer

... and 250 plus
species of birds could
be seen here spread
over various
seasons of an year ...
( ... count at Danube Delta
is 350 plus ... 42000 odd
sq. Km)

Nearly 80 p.c. of it has been
drained ... for construction
of multi-storey apartment
blocks ( in final stages ... )

A part of the surviving
20 p.c. has been given on
lease for fish-farming ...

The fishermen have created
a barrier of thin synthetic
cords ... running around
it ... and into this mesh
many birds ... Herons
and Cormorants are
trapped and die ...
every day ...

This colorful beauty
has been lucky to
have survived
till now ...

Have a glimpse of the
scenario in a brief
video-clip ...
