Lanner Falcon (Falco biarmicus abyssinicus)

There is an extraordinary density of raptors in the Ethiopian highlands and an hours break from trekking can give good views of a dozen of more species. The amount of prey here is remarkable a quick scan through the bins and literally hundreds if not thousands of Mice, Rats, Voles, Molerats and all manner of furry things can be seen scurrying about.
This one is the Sahel subspecies of the Lanner Falcon, abyssinicus , which has the markedly spotted underparts. Not presently represented in the database.
