Hello, everyone. I've been up to Wofford Hts., these past 11 days. Missed everyone on the 'Forum'.
Migratory finches are comming through and usually it is a hit or miss proposition for me to get target birds: that is until my brother informed me of a little seacret...Butterbrendt!!. John (my brother) has known of it for over 30 years but had never been out there until he was approached to be one of the guides/chaufers for an up-comming birding event. He came back to inform me of observing the "El Dorado" of warbler sites. Several of my target birds are amoung the species described. So, out we charge. Butterbrendt is a small water seepage that is surrounded by willows and cottonwood trees. A path wends it's way to a perfect overlook where, for photographers, you are on level or shooting slightly down on the birds. In a word; it was like finding gold lying on the ground. Warblers everywhere. Every target bird on my list was represented. In less than 3 hours I'd captured every target bird on flash card: no hide needed; just shoot away. From my door it is almost exactly 50 miles, some of it on dirt road. Most of the surrounding area is desert: mostly Joshua tree, cactus, rabbit brush etc. It has been known by other birders as one of THE places to go. I was so impressed that I went back for a second day. Most of the images I'll post are from Butterbrendt. My first offering will be of a life bird and target bird for the second day...
