Lazuli Bunting (Passerina amoena)

This western counterpart of the Indigo Bunting prefers grassland with scattered trees or bushes to use for song perches. They often sing from high in the trees or on telephone wires as seen here.

Yes, they're a beauty in the West. Very striking with such a blue sky as you had that day.
We have 'em too, just a couple places in the Portland area, and every spring I go up a hill looking to digiscope them. Listen for the song, and head that direction. "Sweet, sweet, very sweet with sugar" one lady told me they say!
