Least Bittern

Least Bittern (Ixobrychus exilis)

While watching a sora rail I noticed this Bittern and was very pleased to be able to get his image--as they are very shy.
Habitat
Wetlands Marsh
Location
Michigan USA
Date taken
May 10, 2008
Scientific name
Ixobrychus exilis
Equipment used
Canon EOS 40D w/ Canon 100-400mm
I don't think they are shy, they are just very difficult to locate in the reeds and stuff. If I had my choice I definitely would go for the sora. Nonetheless, considering how the least bitterns like to conceal themselves there are often problems with mixed shadow and light. Getting an unobstructed view is difficult as well. In any case, your image is pretty darn good! regards~Bill

After I made this post your next image showed up, and you did go for the sora. cool!
