Least Tern (Sterna antillarum antillarum) Three subspecies are recognized with two being mapped for Texas. Subspecies athalassos is known as the Interior Least Tern and is listed as Federally and State Endangered. Sexes similar. Photographed on Mustang Island on the Gulf of Mexico side, southwest of Port Aransas, Nueces County, Texas, USA.
