Lesser Nighthawk
In August of this year I spent about a week birding in southern California. One very hot midday, just outside the visitor center of the Sunny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, I noticed this Lesser Nighthawk silently flying about, as if it had been disturbed and was seeking a suitable spot to continue its daytime snooze. This tree limb was one of several resting spots it checked out.
