Lesser-spotted woodpecker during -20 degree winter (Dendrocopos minor)

  • Gleb Berloff
An ancient image from 2016. I located this woodpecker during the most vicious winter since 2012-2013 in Russia. I honestly don't know what everybody is talking about- the Russian LSWs are surprisingly easy to spot. In fact, provided they exist in those areas, they are as easy as GSWs. Black woodpeckers are the real problem. Although I have some more images of this species, they are much worse in quality.
