Lesser-Whistling Duck

Lesser-Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna javanica)

There is a stagnant drain water pool in an open plot on the city outskirts which is frequented by various waders such as stilts, sandpipers, pond herons, lapwings and ducks. This is my favorite birding spot. However, during last few months these birds had vanished due to copious monsoon rains. I was happy to see that some of these have started returning to the spot after the rains stopped a few days ago.

I found this lone lesser-whistling duck there for the first time along with a few other birds. Shot from a considerable distance and cropped heavily. Another first for me.
