Lineated Woodpecker

Lineated Woodpecker (Dryocopus lineatus similis)

This is a male with red mustache and forehead. The large red crest is strikingly pointed in this species. These large showy woodpeckers prefer forest edge and clearings. They are more closely related to the Pileated Woodpecker of the United States and Canada than they are to the similar looking Pale-billed Woodpecker which overlaps its range but prefers to stay within the forest. Five subspecies are recognized. Belize birds are the race D. l. similis characterized by pale (not dark) bill and buffy underparts as seen here.

That's a really beautiful woodie Joe.

Wondering if you're planning on adding this picture to The Opus, as he's rather different to the ones already there I think?

Very well done my friend.
