Little Blue Heron
A relatively recent arrival in the San Diego area, they nest in a Snowy Egret colony at nearby Sea World. We counted at least four of these small, dapper herons here. This is an adult. Immatures are white or dappled and take up to two years to mature. They are unique being the only heron where immature plumages are white or dappled. Formerly placed in the monotypic genus "Florida."
