Interesting observation kelvinyam. I just responded to you comment on the Black-winged Stilt. As to this particular photograph, you are probably correct in a strictly photographic sense, and the position of the wing is less than ideal as well, showing a clearly underexposed area. It depends how you look at it. Are you a birder mostly interested in the bird, or a photographer interested in adhering to the rules of good photography, or a combination of both? In any case, when I cropped this image I could have clearly allowed more space in front of the bird, but I'm not sure why.~onlybill

Bill, lovely shot of this fellow. I've only seen the Great Blue Herons, would love to see a Little Blue.
