From near extinction now over 300 birds on the Island. Unfortunately there is a huge rat problem there with the rats taking many eggs and young of all birds . I was lucky to visit this past week as a huge rat eradication program is about to start with over 40 tons of rat poison being used in air drops , baiting etc. These Woodhens will all be caged as will hopefully many of the endemic species on the island as many many birds will also die as a result. In the long term although drastic this will be best for the island and environment .
