Magellanic Oystercatcher (Haematopus leucopodus)

I was surprised to see that there is only one other photo of this bird in the Gallery. I got this shot on Bertha's Beach in the Falklands. The day was pretty windy, and the white sand was blowing hard so that it looked like snow (another of my photos of some steamer ducks makes it look even snowier). I love the orange eye ring on this bird. The Falkland Islands are great places to watch birds as many of them have little fear of man, so you can get pretty close to them.

A super shot.
It looks very similar to our Eurasian Oystercatcher.

Thank you all - much appreciated. This type is pretty similar to the European one, but there are a few differences, especially when they are flying.
