Male Sparrowhawk seen off

My wife Elaine called me this afternoon to tell me the male sparrow Hawk was back perched on top of one of my feeders. I quickly got my camera and started taking some photographs. I thought the hawk was looking at something on the lawn and then a magpie flew up and perched right alongside it. The Hawk looked 'put out' by this Manoeuvre but the Magpie seemed totally unconcerned by its presence. The Hawk departed and the Magpie remained. I guess the Magpie was too large and potentially aggressive for a male sparrowhawk to attack. - See the following photos

A striking portrait with great detail, David. Sounds like an interesting experience.

That's a fabulous picture you've taken of you Sparrowhawk David. It's wonderful to have them visiting and even better when you can get a picture of them.

Thanks for showing him to us lad.

Strangely I had the first one in my garden this morning. I didn't see him till he flew round the side of the building at ground level then up and over the hedge and away!!
