Male Wood Duck

Male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa)

This male Wood Duck came out of the water to follow it's mate at Forest Park St Louis MO. I have taken photos of them in the water, but out of the water this duck is even more beautiful. From it's yellow feet and lower body patterns to the tip of it's tail and top of it's head it is truly one of the most colorful North American Birds.

Thank you twins920 and wonderview, it is breeding season so he is especially bright right now. In my reference bird book, it says he is perhaps the most striking North American duck. This one is for sure. :)
