Mallard in eclipse

From a distance I wondered what species I was seeing, but as I got closer to this cluster of boulders along the shore it was obvious they were all male Mallards in eclipse.

They're so confusing in the late summer/autumn, aren't they Ann.

You've a nice picture of this 'tweener plumage lass, well done.
