Maroon Oriole for KC.
I see today is KC's birthday so here's a special birthday dedication to her.

Happy Birthday, KC !

Maroon Oriole (25-27cm).

Shot of an endangered male Taiwan Maroon Oriole. Race ardens is endemic to Taiwan. The Maroon Oriole is a low altitude forest bird on Taiwan. Due to habitat loss this beautiful bird is threatened and is listed as EN (endangered) by BirdLife International and the IUCN on the Red List. The population of Taiwan Maroon Oriole is believed to be between 200-500. They are a rare resident in the dense forests of my local patch at Huben.

I had been birding in Huben with my mother who visited us for two weeks in April. We had spent a few hours walking trails and were driving back home. We did a quick drive along the same quite forest road that yesterday's Crested Serpent Eagle photo was taken on. Suddenly a pair of Maroon Oriole appeared. I managed to snap a quick shot of the male in some bamboo before he disappeared. This was only my third ever sighting of a Maroon Oriole.

Excellent photo of this rare bird, Mark. Nice to have it in your gallery. It may well be a solid evidence of its presence if people still do not care to help them to come around again.
