Marsh Or Willow (Parus palustris)

Well almost immediately after the Dunnock had perched on this fence, out pops a Tit, and does the same thing. I am going with Marsh Tit for this, but I'm sure you expers out there will let me know if its a Willow.

I'm wondering if it might be a Willow, Mali. An untidy bib and what could be a pale panel on the wing. I'm definitely no expert though and don't know what I'm talking about so I'm probably wrong. Nice shot though.

Call is the only sure way to be certain, in the UK. In Mainland Europe the Willow is very much paler and it is easy to distinguish from Marsh. In the west of the range (uk) the difference is often very subtle and so the call is the only reliable method. High pitched for Marsh and very nasal for willow.

Nice picture Mali of a Willow Tit, the head is much duller than that of a Marsh Tit; the Marsh Tit is a much neater job, this is his scruffy relative!! But I agree - the call is the eaiest way to tell the difference!
