Martial Eagle ER6_2681.jpg
The Martial Eagle was arguing with a Tawny Eagle over who should get feasting rights to a dik-dik (very small deer) that was lying dead next to the road. No real contest, but it meant that the Martial Eagle posed for us just 2 m from the road. Fantastic view, and I am so glad I got the shot.

Stunning Aliks - what an incredible photo-opportunity!

Btw, it looks as if the M.E has had a fair share of the spoils, look at that full crop!

What a stunning shot Aliks and as Deb says, this guy has been pigging out on the dik-dik. Bet you took a lot of shots. Did you get the tawny as well??

Yes, I got a lot of decent shots of both eagles, but the main problem was the lighting. It was getting on towards sunset, and the slanting sunlight brightly lit one side of the bird only. The tawny was mostly sitting on the road in the shadows. I can boost the colours and contrast on the other photos, but it starts to look a little unnatural.
I'll pick out a couple to upload if you like.

That's an outstanding action shot with fantastic detail, Aliks.
