Mating orb weavers

Mating orb weavers (Tetragnatha extensa)

These long-jawed orb weavers were clutching each other face to face in what I believe is part of their mating ritual. They apparently lock jaws at this stage for mutual safety!
Habitat
Wetlands
Location
Somerset Levels
Date taken
1st June, 2008
Scientific name
Tetragnatha extensa
Equipment used
Canon 30D, Sigma 150mm macro
Hope they don't tie a knot with all those long legs, it would spoil their romantic embrace! ;) :'D Super macro, Tim, great colours for a great moment in a Spider's life!!! :t: :t: :t:

Got a feeling they lock Jaws cos he dont trust her Tim!! she may come from a long line of Black Widows LOL, great macro work my friend :t::t::t:

Nice to see your interest in the macro world,Tim. Great shot. Looks like you've been caught in a macro net. I take it you were in a hide for this closeup! ;); :t:

I had difficulties to identify this species from this pic cause its too clear. My Tetragnatha extensas goes more to "arty" section though I try to take clear pictures. You did a brilliant job, Tim.
