Mew Gull (Larus canus)

A lifer for me. Spotted on our lake by birding friends, we decided to take a drive and try to find it. Luck was with me because it was in the same location as reported a couple days earlier. These gulls normally are found on the coast but I guess this youngster decided it liked the warmer weather here.

Oh very well done on your latest Lifer Vicki. I've a real soft spot for these Gulls, as they were the ones that nested on my old patch.

I didn't see them at this age though, once they could fly they were gone.

Beautiful, detailed portrait! Much more common in the Bay Area and along the coast. Does this mean Clear Lake is doing ok in terms of water level now?
 
cracking capture vicki of this beauty.congrats.gulls i see so many but only really started paying attention to what gull is what recently and i have to say they are such great birds and very varied and look so alike i hope one day i can tell the difference with these guys.many tfs.all the best margaret.
