Migrant Hawker (f) (Aeshna mixta)

Another afternoon with no birds, another migrant hawker, a female this time. Souther Hawker is supposed to be the more common species in Herts yet I see these everywhere and haven't seen a Southern yet!
Habitat
Edge of woodland
Location
BAe site hatfield
Date taken
19/06/08
Scientific name
Aeshna mixta
Equipment used
350D Sigma 105mm macro
Ok I take it all back, now I understand.... Sorry Paul.

Also a beautifully photographed shot of a Hawker species.
I am always fascinated with the way in which they use their legs as grappling hooks to hold onto their perch.

K+S

No problem K&S, might have been a little cryptic I guess. Was reading up on them in a book on herts dragonflies and the Southern is most commonly recorded in herts - just not by me ;)
