Migrant Hawker, head-on

Migrant Hawker, head-on (Aeshna mixta)

This was taken with a GH5 and a PL 100-400mm lens hand-held and manually focused. I used manual focus as the AF in whatever mode I used would focus on the background and not the Dragonfly, very frustrating and it meant I lost shots because of it.

Two beautiful aerial images of this Hawker! Nicely captured.

Smashing couple of flight shots Alan.
The AF on cameras is so sensitive to movement nowadays. Luckily with my two cameras you can slow down the re-focus if the subject moves out of shot slightly but its still not ideal and manual focus is the only option especially with a subject like a dragonfly. Not sure if you can do that with the GH5 as not familiar with it.

Thanks for your replies, most welcome:)

I find the AF on the GH5 problematic. It maybe because it's a relatively new system for me, as I moved from Canon to Micro 4/3's and I haven't quite set it up properly. I'll have to re-read the manual.

Alan.
