Monarch on mustard

Monarch on mustard (Danaus plexippus)

Thought I'd go for variety today. Here's a butterfly to start off. The monarchs had left their winter grounds already when I was in CA the past couple of weeks, but there were a few that hadn't gotten far in their migration yet, still hanging around nectaring or hoping to find a mate to start the next generation and the next leg of the summer's journey.

meadow

Coyote Hills Wildlife Preserve, California

Danaus plexippus

Such a fragile creature and such a perilous journey they have to make. Thank you for the photo and for telling about your observation.

What a lovely find for you... and a super picture you've taken of him too.

Very well done Ann - he sat nicely, didn't he.

A wonderful picture of this beautiful Monarch nectaring the mustard. I wish it all the luck on its journey and sojourn to find a mate. Fantastic Doc!!!!
