Mournful Duskywing (Erynnis tristis)

Several of these tiny dark members of the Skipper family were nectaring on Pacific Aster. There are two look-alike species, both with distinctive white trim on their hindwings. The similar Funerial Duskywing has more obvious brown patches on its forewings.
