Habitat
Breeds across most of the UK, other than in northern Scotland, mid-Wales and the moors of south-west England. Possible to see anywhere there is a shallow lake, or a slow-flowing rivers, even in urban areas and parks.

great action shot keith but i have never seen my mutes trying to kill any bird for no reason usually they bully other birds that come to close to their nest and my ducks,moorhens etc have a pecking order here i did not mention coots there because i saw my female mute coming over for food the other day and the coots have a nest near the passage to the food and my mute got set about by a coot and she would not come in for food and the only time i have seen a mute trying to kill another bird was another mute over territory.a great capture of that water action though.all the best margaret.
