Naretha Bluebonnet
Taken at Kanandah Station on 19 th Sept 2019.We were on a trip surveying birds for Birdlife WA in the Great Western Woodlands .We travelled along the Trans Australian Rail line access road for nearly 400 km East of Kalgoorlie and made it to Naretha.
These birds are restricted to the Far East of WA and SWestern SA .They differ from the other Bluebonnets in the Eastern States by not having the red stomach of Hematogaster or Haematorrhaus
The owners of Kanandah Station were very hospitable and allowed us to stay near the homestead and we were lucky to find two pairs.

What an experience! Is any work being done on the genetics of Bluebonnets? Isolated populations could become full species.
