Nest-building time! (Iridoprocene bicolor)

Sorry I haven't posted lately. We've had such fantastic weather this spring that I haven't yet caught up with uploading all the photos onto my computer. We put up a Bluebird nest box on April 24th, and Tree Swallows claimed it on May 1st. Here is the female on the roof of the box on May 6th, pausing for a moment before taking straw into the box. Sadly, Bluebirds drove the Tree Swallows out on May 10th. But we put up a second box on May 19th, and now a new pair of Tree Swallows is building a nest inside it. (Well, the female is, anyway.) The Bluebirds are still using the first nest box, and now there are 5 eggs inside!

Gosh!! What an exciting time you've been having Adele, observing all this activity.

Good luck to the swallow - I hope she's successful with this second attempt.

A lovely picture you've taken of her - many thanks lass.

Thanks, Delia! Yes, it's been quite an exciting time. I don't think the new pair of Tree Swallows in the second box is the same as the original pair who built the nest in the first box, though. I hope the first female found somewhere to lay her eggs.

Fantastic picture of this beautiful and hard working female putting some soft touches to the nest. Superb Adele! Its good to hear that you have had lovely weather, I was wondering where it went (lol). Excellent!!!!!

Thanks, Stanley! We had crystal clear, sunny, blue sky weather for a few weeks. This week it's partly sunny with a chance of rain each day, but I am thankful because it gives me time to catch up on my photos!
