New Bird!
Hi one and all, I've not forgotten you but boy have things been in an uproar here. We had a freak snow storm last Saturday that dumped up to 30 inches of snow in some places. The deciduous trees still have their leavs on them so the damage here is unbelievable, broken trees and power poles everywhere. There were more than two million without electricity in the NorthEast US with below freezing temperatures at night. Anyway, here it is Wednesday and we still have not had our power restored since Saturday (thankfully we have a generator and I can connect to the internet on my husband's smart phone) Here is a link to some of the damage in our garden. Our large oak tree lost all the limbs off the top of the tree. What a mess!

So getting back to this fantastic bird, I'd decided to take a break from the autumn garden chores and went to check out a sighting of a Dickcissel in one of our local parks and what a great stroke of luck that I not only found the bird I was able to get a photo. This is a female Dickcissel and this bird is not supposed to be anywhere around here so a very rare bird indeed.

Gorgeous bird Deanne, beautifully detailed. Just looked at your snowy pis, you certainly have had some awful weather. Glad you are coping so well and best wishes for a rapid return to normality.

Excellent Deanne! congratulations on this lifer, sorry to hear about the damage to your lovely garden, hope things return to normal soon :t:

Wow, what a great image and find Deanne. Fabulous! I saw the yard pics, so sorry. We to here in Jersey have had our troubles. Some areas in more populated sections like Essex County are still without power. This bird would be a lifer for me also. Someday maybe. ;)

Congrats on your wonderful capture, Deanne. TFS.

Sorry to hear about the damage in your area. There appears to be some weird things happening all around the Globe at the moment. Hope all is well going forward.

many congrats on this lifer deanne, sure is a beauty, hope you get back to normal as quickly as possible, cheers.

I think my mind is going, I was convinced I'd commented on this wonderful shot, but it appears I didn't. I am sorry. The clarity and colours are lovely. I like the yellow around its eyes and chin. A really beautiful bird and I'm only sorry you've had so much destruction in your garden from the awful weather! All the very best in getting it straightened out.

Many thanks for the kind comments and words of encouragement regarding the damage to our gardens. we are making progress here and hope to finish with the cleanup in another couple weeks.
