New Caledonia Goshawk
This dapper Accipiter is endemic to Grande Terre, New Caledonia where it inhabits forested areas. It is listed as "near threatened" because of misguided persecution for predator control. Despite legal protection, some are killed because they occasionally take domestic chickens. This is an adult. Juveniles are mottled brown above, barred below and have yellow eyes.
