Nicaraguan Grackle (Quiscalus nicaraguensis)

There was a group of these birds with 4 males vying for the attention of one female. Each of the males would strut and display for 15 seconds or so. They were very civil as each male would take his turn and then sit back to watch the others. This was taken from a boat on the Rio Frio, in Cano Negro, in north central Costa Rica.

This is such a rare visitor to the Gallery Jim, so a wonderful find for you lad.

We don't have a flight picture in The Opus, as yet, so this displaying guy will do very nicely. Many thanks for sharing him with us my friend.

They are so much fun to watch. Maybe it is anthropomorphizing, but it appears that each one is trying to "outstep" the next one. And I guess, they are.
