Night Heron in freezing cold weather
This black-crowned Night Heron was perched in a tree alongside a river in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The tree is normally a resting a roosting spot for the local night heron population. But the morning I took this was bitterly cold most of the trees had turned white from a heavy frost. To my surprise, this made the bird more visible against its wintry background.
