No matter how prepared we are ... (Lophodytes cucullatus)

My Saturday fun for this week is one of my lifers from the CA trip. In a sense there were actually five, not four. That is, I'm pretty sure I've seen Pelagic Cormorants before, but I wasn't aware that's what I was seeing, so I guess they count as the fifth lifer now. But the second one was this Hooded Merganser. And as you can see, I had him in the frame and reasonably in focus. I even knew he was on the move (he'd been resting just before). But still ...
