None shall pass! (Fulica atra)

This coot was actually in a stream below a bridge, but not much further along the trail I came to a 10-yard stretch daughter had forgotten to tell me about that is flooded pretty much year round. I managed somehow to climb my way around that by balancing on tree roots and rocks in the surrounding muck, then when I got to the shopping mall I had the idea that I could buy a couple of plastic shopping bags and wear them over my insufficiently waterproof boots to get through that stretch on my way back. That did work, but in the end daughter nixed the whole walking plan and drove me to the pick-up point Saturday morning.
