Northern Flicker, American Robin (Colaptes auratus)

A lousy photo but a fun story.
This Flicker was mooching around under a Hawthorn, occasionally eating fallen berries. A bunch of Robins up in the Hawthorn didn't like it, and were shrieking their displeasure at it. The Flicker then flew up to this tree nearby, a robin hot on it's tail. The Flicker just calmly perched there and looked around, while being stared down by the Robin. The Flicker then flew back down to the Hawthorn, and the Robin followed, giving shrill alarm calls all the way. The Robins REALLY didn't like the Flicker. I guess the Robins wanted all the berries to themselves.

Great to get them together, even if the robin was trying to get rid of the flicker! Lovely narrative to go with this lovely shot.

LOL Bill.... what wonderful interaction you watched, and described it to us wonderfully too... I was with it all the way.

That's a fantastic picture you've taken of these two warriers - many thanks my friend.
