Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus)

What a surprise today, I was out trying for some Chickadee shots in the late afternoon light when this fabulous bird flew in to the White Pine tree where I have a few different feeders (including suet). I haven't seen a Northern Flicker here in the garden for a couple years so I was amazed to see this gorgeous boy in my view finder. He popped down to the suet feeder, heard the shutter, climbed up the tree then went around to the back side. He kept going from one side and peering around at me then would go behind the tree and peer at me out from the opposite side. He didn't stay long but I did get a few close up photos of him. No full shots of the bird as it was too close!
