Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus)

I'm so thrilled that this beautiful bird has been making an appearance here almost every day. He seems to really enjoy the hot pepper suet. I'd not seen one here for a couple years then one starts showing up every day right in front of my camera, go figure? Lucky me! The feather detail and patterning on this bird is just exquisite. The little round black dots remind me a bit of the 'eyes' on the tails of peacocks.

I did clone out a little bit of the suet feeder in the upper left of the image. There wasn't much of it but the image is so much nicer without it.
