Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus)

Northern Flicker is divided into two subspecies groups. This is a male of the "Red-shafted" group showing a red mustache, gray face and red undertail. They usually prefer to eat insects, especially ants but sometimes in winter they feed on fruits and berries as seen here.
