Northern Lapwing

Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus)

To recap, I'm now effectively housebound, so nearly all my Gallery shots are of "garden birds" taken from the windows of my flat. But two or three times a year my brother takes me somewhere else for birding, and last Sunday we went to Bough Beech Reservoir. Previously, my last visit here was in 1997 for a rarity, Little Crake, and it was nice to see the old place again. It's a good option if you've got limited mobility, as there's ample parking along the side of the road next to the reservoir.

It was thrilling to find this Lapwing bathing. Most other birds were relatively distant for photography, but I've got some images in the pipeline.

Thank you for your kind comments on my pictures, and good birding!

That's a super picture you've taken of this bathing Lapwing John.... you've really timed that nicely too.

You asked me about Hooded Crows. No, we don't get them here, I have to go over to the west. There's some that look like hoodies in the Aberfeldy area, but I think they're mostly hybrid, as that is close to the area where 'proper' ones occur.

It's hard to be really sure if they 'true' or not on the mainland though, but generally those on the west coast are (I think).
