Wonder how you spotted it in the first place for the bird looks like a broken branch extension of the tree!! Superbly captured from the boat, Peter!! tfs.

The bird does blends in well with the background colors, you did great to get the picture of the bird, well done all around Peter. We live in a cabin out in the woods here in Kentucky, guess that is why we see so many woodpeckers. Some type of bug came in KY and killed our Ash trees. We left the dead trees standing out in the woods, the woodpeckers are using them for nests, etc. Have a great weekend

Had to look twice to catch the bird! I'm amazed you could even make it out with the feathers blending so well into the wood. An awesome capture by the way.
