Northern Shoveler (male)

Northern Shoveler (male) (Anas clypeata)

Taken through a chain-link fence at a marshy pond just inside the border fence for the Oakland International Airport (OAK), along Ron Cowan Parkway. Distance is approximately 50m.

This is using the 1.6x digital teledapter and some Photoshop plugin magic to clean-up the photo. Seems these ducks insist on either being a long distance away (like this one) or in deep shadows.

That's a really lovely Shoveler picture you've taken Kevin - it's not often you get the light to show that head colour, I generally only see the green iridescence.

Thanks for telling me how you do that picture compilation. Sadly I don't have PS, as it was way far to complex for me LOL. I use Paint.net, and should be able to do it, but I don't understand how to use Layers!! Think I'm a lost cause!

Your technical workings certainly produced a fabulous shot, Kevin. The lighting is lovely.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I'm a graphic designer and IS/IT tech by trade, and been at it a couple decades with Photoshop. Photoshop is by no means an easy program to learn and/or master, even for those of us who use it regularly. :)
