Not my first (Butorides virescens)

Green Heron. My first one flew right in front of me and landed just a few feet away at an estuary in Berkeley, CA. I've seen many since, not least at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa, CA. Still, it was good to see another. I think on a later day of the trip I saw one that actually looked green, for a change. I don't recall whether I got a good shot of that one, but we'll see when I get to that day in the travelogue. This one, meanwhile, was looking more the typical coppery brown. Maybe not oxidized enough to turn that copper green ;)

Damn Ann! I know the reed is going through the feathers but it looks like it went through its body.

A lovely image of this Green Heron girl.
