Not sipping nectar (Archilochus colubris)

Saw this ruby throated hummer female on the serviceberry tree. Not berry eating or nectar drinking. It was drinking water. She would lean over and delicately sip the drops of rainwater at the ends of leaves and bottoms of the berries. Neat thing to watch.

I purposely hose down the leaves of my trees and you'd be surprised at how many birds take advantage of it. Both in leaf bathing and sipping. Especially when it is as hot as it has been here.

A beautiful example of this action Bill.
