Not so common this year (Chloris chloris)

For some reason we seem to be in another down year as far as Greenfinch numbers go. They collapsed that one year when a late frost killed off most of the forest berries, then numbers started to climb again, but now we're in another slump. Perhaps this one is a sort of down-generation echo of the first collapse ...?

stay safe (hopefully I can do some birding next weekend, although the weather forecast looks quite bad)

They usually look so grumpy, but this one looks quite cheerful with his feast, Ann.

Mmmm..... it could be I guess Ann.

Conversely I've heard two separate birds here this year - the first for several years. Mind that was in a period of about 3 days back in April and I've not heard one since!!

It's been bad for them over here for several years now.

That is a perky looking yellow bird, Ann. Don't you love yellow birds? I never did see any Gold Finches this year in my yard and it was sad. Many thanks for your pictures.
