Not sure I can swallow this.. (Fringilla coelebs)

It's not often I see the Chaffinches with the whole peanuts, and can't believe he actually took it.

Presumably they nibble on them, though I've never seen them eat the nuts.

I saw the female with the fungus foot the other day, so she seems to be doing OK for the moment.

TTTW so not the best of focus, sorry.

Nice behavior and shot, Delia ... good news on the one with fungal infection ... hope the recovery will be complete ...
 
terrific capture delia.mine only eat my sunflower hearts.nice your female with the fungus foot is still around.i have not seen mr.droopy wing(jackdaw) for a few days now,the weather is cold and i know corvids start to challenge each other earlier than most birds for breeding so i hope its ok.all the best margaret.

It seems almost too big for her, I agree. But even Blue Tits will fly off from the feeder with a whole peanut if they can maneuver one out in one piece. They take it to a sturdy branch in the crabapple shrub where they hold the peanut between their feet and peck away at it for a while. Then maybe off to the cherry tree or the lilac for more pecking work. Surprisingly, it doesn't even take all that long before they're back for another.

Excellent capture and picture of this male Chaffinch with a hearty appetite. I sure hope the female survives!!!!!
