Not the one I was after, but...

...it'll do ;)
Let me explain. I've been exploring new places lately and I've discovered my own pair of Barn Owls which I'm trying to nail and en route to them on friday morning I came across this fella at about 4.45am. How can this be taken at 4.45am I hear you say? Long exposure is the answer, plus a little more in photoshop. As soon as I've got a Barn Owl shot (I've come close) I'll have photographed all of Britain's proper Owls (Eagle Owl being a thorny subject). Got him to look at me by waving my arms about like a lunatic while the camera was on a 2 second delay, thank god there's no-one around at that time in the morinig!
Habitat
Open Farmland
Location
Rufford
Date taken
16th May 2008
Equipment used
Canon 40D + 100-400mm IS L USM + tripod
Great shot, especially considering how difficult this bird is! The only Tawnies I've seen have been flying silhouettes. But then I don't get up that early.

jaff a excellent shot my young friend.....as for no one around when waving like a lunatic..are you sure...lol..:'D...love it my friend..wondering is it the picture or your waving like a luna.i.. love....lol..Thanks for sharing.:t:

So you ordered a tenderloin and came up with a rib eye! Excellent tactic to photo in low light too, congrats.

At 4:45 am I'm usually sleeping like a baby... that must be the reason why I don't come across Owls often! ;)

You've done a very good job, Adam, both finding this ghost and managing this image before dawn!!! Very loud  for you!!!
