NZ Kea (Alpine Parrot)

I wonder if this is the same bird that I saw at Arthur's Pass in February. It was on the porch of the shop/cafeteria and flew up and stole a lady's sandwich, still in its plastic container.

pstraughan, yes it would have been the same type of bird which you saw pinch the lady's sandwich. I love to sit at the same cafe and watch the unsuspecting people being robbed by these birds. It can provide hours of entertainment. Unfortunately they can dismantle cars as well and will break areals, pull out weather strips and windshield wiper blades. Will also take the sunglasses of your head if you are not careful.

They have signs that say do not feed Kea's but no signs that warn you to hang on to your lunch...funny that..
