Olive Sparrow
This is the only Olive Sparrow we saw on our trip. They are very shy, tending to skulk deep in the thorn scrub. On past visits I tried to track down singing birds to no avail so was very pleased to get this photo of a singing bird. This rather drab, unassuming bird has a patchy distribution northwest to Uvalde County here in the Edwards Plateau region . This species has been divided into three subspecies groups. This is the nominate "rufivirgatus" group ranging from Texas to Eastern Mexico and is the dullest in coloration of the three groups.
