If you look carefully, you'll notice her (I'll take a chance too and go with this one being female ... unless and until "she" transitions into male plumage come Spring) "teeth" (I know they're not teeth, but I've forgotten what they're called) project out over her lower mandible.

Wonderful close-up being able to see those serrations in her bill. Great focus, dof, lighting, colors, detail, and eye contact. First-rate Doc!
 
A beautifully-detailed portrait of the Shoveler, Doc, and the water looks beautiful! I've never noticed the serrated bill before.
